A New Coat of Paint Makes Such a Difference

While renovating our new house, we found one of the easiest and best ways to transform a living space is to give it a new coat of paint.  It can impact the whole vibe of your home, creating an inviting and relaxing atmosphere.

The previous owner of our home had many of the walls painted colors that made the house feel dark and tired. The downstairs guest room and living room walls were mustard yellow. Additionally, the primary bedroom walls were painted a berry blue, a hue that had purple undertones.  The walls in the other rooms were painted a yellow-tinted white color (ivory perhaps). They looked old and needed a refresh.

Finding the perfect paint color…

You can easily go crazy trying to find the ‘perfect’ paint colors for each room.  Even choosing the perfect white can be a daunting process.  But sometimes, going simple is just as effective.

The light and bright effect…

In keeping with our home theme ‘light and bright,’ we visited Lowe’s Home Improvement, which is a great resource for DIYers, and picked up some cans of Kilz and Valspar bright white paint; flat for the ceiling, eggshell for the walls and semi-gloss for the trim.  We also purchased a ladder, drop cloths, sand paper, paint brushes, rollers and paint sticks.

Then we got busy sanding and painting, room by room, brightening up the interior.  We discovered the mustard yellow and berry blue walls are intense colors.  It took multiple coats of Kill-Z to cover them up. It was an exhausting process!!

In the end, it was definitely worth the effort. While we still have more rooms to repaint, the new coat of paint makes the whole space feel brighter, cleaner and bigger.

One of the things we love most about the house now is that when we walk into our living room and kitchen in the morning, they are sun-filled.  The sunshine pours through the windows and deck doors and reflects off the white walls.  It’s such an uplifting way to start each day.
