I’m Luke Smith and I’m passionate about DIY home improvement and interior design. I help homeowners add value to their homes by teaching them how-to DIY their home improvement projects.
My grandfather was a successful architect who helped rebuild San Francisco after the historic 1906 earthquake. He and my grandmother retired to my family’s Mid-Hudson Valley 1850’s farmhouse property in the 1940s, installing the plumbing and electricity. In the 1980’s, the house suffered from significant water damage due to bursting pipes. This coupled with wear and tear over the years resulted in my growing up working on various home improvement projects.
For most of my professional life, I worked for the Emmy® awards. NATAS, my former employer, administers the Children’s and Family, Daytime, News & Documentary, Sports and Technology & Engineering Emmy awards.
Recipients came to my station backstage to receive their statue. I was fortunate to meet some very skilled talent and producers. Some of the nominees included content creators in the home renovation, how-to and lifestyle genres and programs such as of “Dream Home Makeover,” “Fixer to Fabulous,” “Fixer Upper,” “George To The Rescue” (hosted by a fellow high school alum), and the pioneering PBS TV show “This Old House.”
An avid fan of these programs, I got excited about the idea of owning a fixer upper that I didn’t co-own with other family members. In 2022 I sold my stake in the 1850s farmhouse property, and my wife and I purchased a 2003 Cape Cod style home that had great bones, but needed a major facelift.
In 2025 I was let go from my job, allowing me to transition from awarding content creators to becoming one myself.
MAKING HOME HAPPY is my mission!
